Vidlak third at Sierra Nevada

    RENO, Nev. — Cascade Christian junior Gabe Vidlak ran his season record to 20-1 while placing third in the Sierra Nevada Wrestling Classic Saturday at the Reno Livestock Events Center.

    Vidlak, who last year captured the Challengers first state mat championship, went 7-1 at 120 pounds.

    He defeated Anthony Aniciete, of Slam Academy, 7-1 in the third-place match.

    Vidlak’s lone loss came in the quarterfinals by a 16-3 major decision against eventual champion Richard Castro-Sandoval (21-1), of Santa Ynez Valley.

    Prior to facing Castro-Sandoval, Vidlak recorded two falls and a major decision. He had three pins in the tournament.
