South Medford quartet highlights all-SWC list

    South Medford’s girls basketball team came close to accomplishing a rare feat during the recent all-Southwest Conference voting, finishing one player shy of having its entire starting unit on the all-league first team.

    Senior Ula Chamberlin was joined by junior Bella Pedrojetti and sophomores Kaili Chamberlin and Toni Coleman on the Panther-dominated first team.

    Sophomore starter Shakia Teague-Perry was a second-team selection.

    All five Panthers finished among the top-10 in SWC scoring, with Ula Chamberlin ranking first at 18.1 points per game to go with 5.2 rebounds.

    Pedrojetti averaged 13.2 points and 5.0 rebounds for runner-up South Medford, with Kaili Chamberlin at 10.5 points and 5.4 rebounds and Coleman averaging 9.9 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.8 steals.

    Sheldon junior Alyssa Mirabile and Grants Pass senior Ahdra Klingler shared player of the year honors, and Brian Brancato of Sheldon was named coach of the year.

    Also on the first team were Sheldon’s Makayla Scurlock and Grace Gaither of Grants Pass.

    In SWC boys voting, North Medford senior Jaray Thomas was named to the first team after averaging 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists for a Black Tornado squad that finished in a three-way tie for the SWC title.

    Roseburg senior Collin Warmouth earned his second player of the year honor, and Roseburg’s Mike Pardon was named coach of the year.

    Also earning first-team recognition were Sheldon seniors Patrick Herbert and Dominic McGarvey, South Eugene senior Cole McAninch and Grants Pass senior Taylor Anderson.
