North Medford swept the outstanding wrestler honors between Cole Zoller (lower weights) and Andres Ramirez (upper weights) and stormed through the local competition by netting eight champions to win the 13-school Rogue Valley Championships at North Medford High.

The Black Tornado put 14 wrestlers in the championship finals, with individual titles going to Alex Silva (106 pounds), Enrique Jaime (126), Benjamin Zeigler (138), Zoller (145), Ethan Miller (152), Ramirez (160), Thomas Hamilton (170) and Jullian Stone (220).

Zoller scored a 16-1 technical fall over Phoenix’s Jacky Hawkins in his final, while Ramirez added a 23-5 technical fall in his championship match over Coquille’s Brayden Clayburn.

North Medford totaled 471 points to easily outdistance runner-up Eagle Point (243). Phoenix placed third at 168, followed by Hidden Valley (123) and Mazama (118) to round out the top five.

“The guys all wrestled well,” said North Medford head coach Phillip Lopez. “I just think our good guys are pretty good now. They’re juniors and seniors now and they do a good job beating up our younger kids, and I don’t think our younger kids want to be that person so they work really hard and found themselves on the podium, too, today.”

Placing second for the Black Tornado were Kyleigh Lopez (120), Griffin Gutches (138), Matthew Bryant (152), Will Anderson (182), Thomas Bates (195) and Jaden Sanduski (220).

Lopez said he was particularly pleased with Hamilton’s championship win, stretching a narrow lead to a 15-9 decision over Phoenix’s Dane Johnson with a surge in the final 40 seconds.

Eagle Point picked up championships from Freddy Barajas (120) and Bradey Thrash (132), while second place went to Trigger Weyers (113) and Dylan Dahling (132).

Phoenix’s Ezra DeLuca won at 113, while Hawkins (145) and Johnson (170) placed second.

Rogue River’s Dyllan Houser won the title at 182 and heavyweight Danny Herinckx was runner-up.

South Medford placed sixth with 103.5 points, led by a runner-up showing from Isaac Rubus, who lost 6-4 in the final to Jaime.
