PREP ROUNDUP: No. 1 Dayton tops Cascade Christian

    SALEM — Top-ranked Dayton scored 25 first-period points and cruised to victory in the nonleague victory in the Salem Academy Classic boys basketball tournament Thursday.

    Levi Sciapiti and Layne Collom each scored 11 points for Cascade Christian (1-11).

    Dayton’s Braeden Nowlin scored 18 of his 19 points in the first quarter, and teammate Lukas Findley added 19 points for the Pirates (9-3).

    LOST RIVER 65, ROGUE RIVER 49: At Lost River, Rogue River trailed by 31 points in the third quarter but went on a big run to make the Southern Cascade League game interesting.

    The Chieftains (6-5) went on a 14-0 run over four minutes of the second half to narrow the gap.

    Diego Agosto scored 15 points and Tyler Walsh had 13 in the loss.

    Girls Basketball

    CAMAS 61, GRANTS PASS 57: At Grants Pass, Camas, Washington, outscored Grants Pass 12-8 in overtime to register the nonconference win.

    The Cavers, who started the season 8-1, have dropped three straight and are 8-4, the same as Camas.

    Ahdra Klingler scored 18 points and Grace Gaither 16 for Grants Pass.

    Haley Hanson made eight 3-pointers and scored 26 for Camas.

    DE LA SALLE 56, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 48: At Salem, Cascade Christian took a lead into the middle of the third quarter before a 6-0 run by De La Salle North Catholic changed the course of the Salem Academy Classic game.

    Emily Stephens had 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Challengers (4-8).

    Abby Alexander chipped in 11 points, nine rebounds and three assists, and Sophie Ferreira had seven boards and four steals against the Knights (4-5).

    LOST RIVER 55, ROGUE RIVER 38: At Lost River, Rogue River made a run in the second half of the Southern Cascade League opener for both teams but couldn’t overtake the Raiders.

    Rogue River (7-5), getting a boost from help defense in the middle, pulled within eight in the second half after trailing 31-15 at halftime to Lost River (5-6).

    Alyssa Sizemore scored 10 for the Chieftains, and Jesse Langfield added eight. Seven of the eight Rogue River players to see action scored.

    RV ADVENTIST 38, GILCHRIST 26: At Gilchrist, Savanah Zamora scored 15 points and Rogue Valley Adventist pulled away in the third quarter of the Mountain Valley League game.

    Zamora also had five rebounds, five steals and three assists for the Red Tail Hawks (7-1, 2-1 MVL), who outscored the Grizzlies 15-8 in the third quarter after opening a 19-12 halftime lead.

    Madelyn Bennett added nine points and two steals, and Zoe Belovitch had eight points, six rebounds and five steals.

    PHOENIX 51, ASHLAND 6: At Ashland, Phoenix rolled to the nonleague dual win.

    The Pirates got eight wins by pin, including three in less than a minute by Jacky Hawkins at 145 pounds, Mike Walker at 152 and Sam Brumble at 170.
