PREP ROUNDUP: Crater pins Grants Pass

    CENTRAL POINT — Crater amassed 10 falls — including four in less than a minute — and rolled to a 69-12 nonconference wrestling victory over Grants Pass on Thursday.

    Grants Pass’ points came on a forfeit and a fall.

    The Comets’ Tony Flores needed only 19 seconds for a pin at 195 pounds.

    Other Crater wrestlers to record falls in less than a minute were Ryan McCarty (106 pounds), Hunter Hiatt (145) and Diego Flores (182).

    GALENA 52, GRANTS PASS 46: At Reno, Nev., after a strange first half, Galena pulled away in the second half for the nonconference win.

    Grants Pass (0-2) erupted for 27 points in a high-scoring first quarter and led by three. The teams followed that offensive display with a scoreless second quarter, leaving the halftime score unchanged at 27-24.

    Skyler Rich tallied 12 points and Taylor Anderson 11 for the Cavemen.

    Rich’s 3-pointer pulled Grants Pass within 49-46 late in the contest, but Isaac Wood made 3 of 4 foul shots down the stretch to seal it.

    AMITY 69, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 39: At Tigard, sixth-ranked Amity cruised to victory in the opening round of the eight-team Westside Winter Jam at Westside Christian High.

    The Challengers (0-1), who face tournament host Westside Christian at 5 p.m. today in the second round, kept pace in the first quarter but were outscored 16-5 in the second as Amity pulled away.

    Dominic Lewis led the Challengers with 10 points and Layne Collom added nine.

    RV ADVENTIST 42, MILO ADVENTIST 36: At Days Creek, Rogue Valley Adventist rallied from a double-digit deficit in the first quarter for the nonconference win.

    The Red Tail Hawks (2-0) trailed 20-8 in the first quarter and tied it by halftime.

    Isaiah Christensen notched 18 points, 10 rebounds and six steals in the win. Ruben Tovar had nine points and Caleb Jackson five points and 10 rebounds.

    GRANTS PASS 62, GALENA 35: At Reno, Nev., Grants Pass’ Ahdra Klingler had 23 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals to lead the Cavers to their second win in as many games.

    Grace Gaither scored 11 points for Grants Pass and added five assists and four steals.

    CASCADE CHRISTIAN 50, HOSANNA CHRISTIAN 38: Emily Stephens was a force for Cascade Christian, which took control with a big second quarter and gave Glenn Johannes his first victory as the host Challengers’ head coach.

    Stephens registered 22 points on 9 of 18 shooting to go with nine rebounds and four blocked shots, and Abigail Alexander chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.

    Tied after the first period, the Challengers (1-1) outpaced Hosanna Christian — the No. 9 Class 1A team in the state — 23-9 in the second.

    Elliana Hagloch grabbed 13 boards for the Challengers, who collected 38 as a team.
