SALEM — Standing 6-foot and 295 pounds, Cascade Christian senior Logan Flenner has been a force in the trenches for the Challengers’ football team during his tenure.
On Saturday, he added basketball spark plug to his resume, coming off the bench to drain three 3-pointers and give his team a much-needed shot in the arm en route to a 63-41 win over Gold Beach in the Crusader Classic New Year’s Invitational at Salem Academy.
Cascade Christian opened a 17-11 lead through one quarter but sat on that figure after six scoreless minutes before Flenner came on to spark a late surge.
“He’s a really good shooter and he came in and hit two 3’s bang-bang against their zone when we’d had some good looks before that but weren’t makting it,” said Challengers head coach Brian Morse. “That got us going and gave us good energy heading into halftime. He had another 3 in the second half and really gave us a good lift.”
Flenner finished with 12 points overall, with Donminic Lewis adding 14 points and Kiegan Schaan 10 for the Challengers (2-12).
With a little more pep in their step, the Challengers sprinted past Gold Beach (5-7) with a 25-10 run in the third quarter built on defensive pressure and transition opportunities.
“We made a bigger effort to get out into the passing lanes and pressure the ball and they didn’t handle it well and we got some fastbreak points out of it,” said Morse. “It was a good way to end our tough preseason schedule.”
