The Junior Spartans won the under-14 bantam hockey state championship last weekend at the Running Y Resort in Klamath Falls.
It was the third tournament win for the Spartans, who ran their season record to 21-1-2. They’ve outscored opponents 128-38.
The Spartans routed Eugene, 9-1, in the state final, getting a goal and three assists from Ko Sekiguchi and a goal and one assist each from Megan Hill, Ysabelle Dias and Trevor Heaton.
Scoring one goal apiece were Jack Regan, Ian Tesman, Alejandro Ramirez, Cameron Zetterquist Shane Agee, while Reese Barney, Dillon Bartlett and Elliot Zimmer each added an assist.
In other tournament games, the Spartans downed Bend 2-0, Eugene 4-2 and Portland 6-0.
CRATER TAKES STATE: The Crater boys bowling team finished first and the Comet girls second in the Oregon High School State Finals last month at Firebird Lanes in Salem.
The boys rallied to defeat McKay, of Salem, 428-421 in the Baker game finals. Crater trailed by 31 pins after the first of two games.
North Medford placed 10th and Grants Pass 15th.
Members of the Comet boys team were Matthew King, Andrew Dornbusch, Mathew Madson, Jeremiah Boatwright, Ezra Taylor and Gabrial Lane.
Crater’s girls were runner-up to Bend, losing in the finals, 315-289.
Grants Pass was third and Hidden Valley 10th.
Crater team members were Tahleana Cole, Caltlyn Werner, Lillian Mickson, Willow Wilson, Shasta Hanna, Megan Wagner, Renna Broester and Maddie Calhoun.
