GREAT FALLS, Mont. — Southern Oregon University 141-pounder Devin Poppen successfully defended his Cascade Conference wrestling title, 149-pounder Chandler Michael captured his first and the Raiders finished fifth in the team standings Saturday at the CCC Championships.
Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) won the team championship in the second annual event with 136 points, followed by Menlo (131.5), Providence (124), Montana State-Northern (104.5) and SOU (101.5) to round out the top five teams.
Poppen used a pair of pins in the quarterfinals and semifinals to reach his final at 141, then dispatched Menlo’s Joseph Dominguez with an 11-1 major decision.
Michael scored a pin in 43 seconds during his semifinal match, then capped his run with a pin of Menlo’s Terrill Sidner in 5 minutes, 40 seconds.
SOU’s Justin Coon finished runner-up at 133 after falling 5-4 in his championship match to Menlo’s Blaysen Terukina.
Also for the Raiders, Tanner Fischer placed fourth at 197, Max Hane was fifth at 285 and finishing sixth were Pancho Barrera (125), Hunter Hodges (157) and C.J. McKinnis (184).
