Southern Oregon pitcher Gabby Sandoval’s hot start has netted her third Cascade Conference softball pitcher of the week award of the season.
In the Raiders’ conference-opening series against Eastern Oregon, Sandoval threw 162/3 innings over three appearances without allowing an earned run, striking out 13 and yielding seven hits.
She pitched two complete games, allowing four hits and three unearned runs in the opener and tossing a two-hit shutout in the third and final CCC counter of the series. In the non-conference finale, she took care of the final 22/3 frames in relief and struck out the side in the seventh.
SOU (14-3) took three of four from the Mountaineers. Sandoval improved to 8-1 and her earned-run average dropped to 1.04 — tops in the CCC and seventh-best in the NAIA among pitchers who have logged at least 30 innings. The junior from Anaheim, Calif., has thrown 602/3.
The Raiders were originally scheduled to play their next series, Friday and Saturday, at Carroll (Mont.). Due to inclement weather in Helena, the teams are now slated to meet at a neutral site in Caldwell, Idaho, and play doubleheaders starting at 3 p.m. Pacific on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday.
