Severe thunderstorms are forecast for parts of Southern Oregon this afternoon and evening, including Medford, according to the National Weather Service.
The strongest storms are likely to affect the western slopes of the Southern Oregon Cascades northeastward, forecasters said in a news release.
"This includes Siskiyou Summit and areas east of Medford, northeastward across the Southern Oregon Cascades and Klamath County," the release said.
The storms could include "frequent" cloud-to-ground lightning strikes in the coverage area. Wind gusts up to 50 mph, along with downed trees and power lines, are also possible. Additional impacts could include hail and ponding of rainwater on roads.
Storm clouds are expected to appear near the Cascades and Siskiyou mountains early this afternoon and then spread north and northeast.
The best chance for storms is between 2 and 9 p.m., forecasters said.
