The Mt. Ashland Ski Area is closed today because of high winds.
"We are seeing sustained winds that are high enough to make it unsafe to operate the lifts at this time," according to its website, www.mtashland.com. "They are expected to decrease late this afternoon."
There is some good news, however: The weather forecast calls for 2 to 4 inches of new snow today on top of a 21-inch base on the lower mountain. At the summit, the mountain has 20 inches of snow.
