Police are investigating a Wednesday burglary in which about 1,000 pounds of frozen marijuana was reported stolen in Medford.

At 4:26 a.m. Wednesday, suspects were captured on surveillance cameras breaking into a cold-storage facility in the 100 block of East 13th Street. They allegedly made off with some 20 bags of marijuana, each weighing approximately 50 pounds, according to Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau.

The surveillance video shows the suspects cutting the metal doors of the packing house.

“It took quite some effort,” Budreau said.

Detectives are in the early stages of the crime investigation, Budreau said, so he couldn’t release any information about possible suspects or vehicles involved.

The first report of the crime came from the packing house Wednesday when a manager told police the marijuana had been stored at the facility for roughly two years.

Police haven’t yet identified the marijuana’s owner, according to Budreau.

“We’re actually working on that today,” Budreau said.

A consultant for the packing house estimated the marijuana was valued at $75,000. Budreau said detectives are looking into the possibility that the frozen marijuana could carry a different value than $75 per pound.
