David and Linda Babbitt of Ashland celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 26, 2014, with a party for family and friends hosted by their daughters at Wood & Vine in Hollywood, Calif. About 75 people attended.
David Oran Babbitt married Linda Jane Hurley on April 25, 1964, in Los Angeles. They have two daughters: Michelle of West Hollywood, Calif., and Kathryn (Aaron) Wallace of Folsom, Calif; and two grandchildren, David and Owen Wallace.
David was born in Los Angeles and raised in Torrance, Calif. He graduated from North Torrance High School, El Camino College and Cal State Long Beach.
Linda was born in San Francisco and moved at a young age to Los Angeles. She is a graduate of St. Mary's Academy. The couple met through their mutual friend, Suzanne Dudley.
David worked for 27 years at Pacific Bell and AT&T before retiring in 1989. Linda was a stay-at-home mom until Michelle was in high school and Kathryn was in middle school. She then began a career in the workers' compensation insurance industry before retiring in 2002.
The couple lived in Gardena, Huntington Beach, Soquel and Clayton, Calif., before moving to Ashland after Linda retired.
In retirement David enjoys senior softball and fishing. Linda enjoys line dancing, attending the theater and volunteering at the Tudor Guild gift shop supporting the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
