Community Kitchen hosts open house Saturday
The Ashland Community Peace Meal will hold a free open house at its new offices and community kitchen space from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at 330 East Hersey St., unit No. 9, in Ashland.
Volunteers will showcase their new office space. There will be music and light snacks.
The Ashland Community Peace Meal provides meals and resources for local people in need. The group organizes a free community meal at 5 p.m. every Friday at Pioneer Hall, 73 Winburn Way, Ashland.
Volunteers also support community food distributions throughout the week. Besides providing warm, nutritious meals, the program connects volunteers, resources and services for vulnerable communities. With the new warehouse location, organizers hope to create a space for volunteers to store and prepare food and serve as a place for training in culinary skills, all in a space suitable for the commercial preparation of food.
The Ashland Community Peace Meal is sponsored by Southern Oregon Jobs with Justice. SOJWJ brings together labor unions, religious congregations, student groups and community organizations to improve working peoples’ standard of living, job security and their right to organize.
