Jacksonville's historic Beekman House opens for three weekends in December to showcase how Jacksonville's wealthiest pioneer family celebrated Christmas.
Costumed docents will talk about Victorian Christmas traditions from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, December 1-2, 8-9, and 15-16, at the 1873 C.C. Beekman House, located at 470 E. California St. Visitors can search for a good luck German pickle ornament on the Christmas tree, sing carols, learn about presents the Beekmans exchanged and even sample sugar cookies baked from a Beekman family recipe.
Mrs. Beekman's Christmas Bazaar will sell toys, crafts, collectibles, holiday items, and popular gifts of the late 1800s.
Tour admission is $4 for adults; $2 for seniors 65 and older and children ages 6-12. Bazaar admission is free. All proceeds from house tours and the bazaar go to the Beekman House Preservation and Restoration Project.
