'Once Upon a Mattress'

As the strains of the overture die down, the Minstrel tells the audience the familiar Hans Christian Anderson story "The Princess and the Pea." But, says the Minstrel, that's not what actually happened. And with that, "Once Upon a Mattress" sets out to tell the real story.

Camelot Theatre Conservatory, Camelot's summer camp group, is presenting the musical comedy with music by Mary Rodgers (daughter of Richard Rodgers), lyrics by Marshall Barer and book/libretto by Jay Thompson, Marshall Barer and Dean Fuller.

The show features 27 students ages 7-17 and is directed by Rebecca Campbell, choreographed by Suzanne Sieber, with vocal/acting coaching by Renee Hewitt and musical direction by Jennifer Schloming.

The show runs at 7 p.m. Friday, July 27; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, July 28; and 2 p.m. Sunday, July 29.

Tickets for "Once Upon a Mattress" are $10 for adults and $7 for students. Reservations are recommended and there is an additional $2 per ticket charge for reserved seating. Tickets are only available at the Camelot Theatre box office or by phone at 535-5250.

Box Office hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and one hour before performances.
