Ring in 2011 before making resolutions

New Year's Eve is a time to celebrate new beginnings. But before you make your list of resolutions, send 2010 out with a bang. Here's a short list of bashes planned for Friday, Dec. 31. Look for more information next week in Tempo.

Rocking Reggae New Year's Bash: Two nights of live music will ring in the New Year on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, at the Medford Armory, 1701 S. Pacific Highway, Medford. Local comedian Carl Lee kicks off the shows both nights. Friday's bill includes Living on Dreams Band, the Frankie Hernandez Band, Marko with Monk and Ras Cricket, Indubious with Alcyon Massive and Babylon Saints. Aerial dance troupe The Curtain Climbers also will perform, and a fire-knife dance by Sonny Kanahele tops off the night. Hours will be from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday's lineup features The Rogue Suspects with Jeff Pevar, State of Jefferson, Babylon Saints, the Frankie Hernandez Band, Headwayte and 541 Syndicate. Saturday also offers kid-friendly entertainment, such as Random Sound, a bounce house and other activities. Hours will be from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. Festivities also will include a laser light show, hourly prize giveaways, a beer and wine garden and shuttle rides home. NEW YEAR'S EVE AT THE RED LION HOTEL: Hot Gossip will perform classic rock starting at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, in the grand ballroom. There will be a midnight Champagne toast. Rock band Red X will perform in Characters Lounge at the hotel. A dinner buffet will start at 7 p.m. in the ballroom. Several entertainment and lodging packages will be available. CAST OF CLOWNS AT APPLEGATE LODGE: The band of psychedelic tricksters, featuring guitarists Craig Wright and Jeff Pevar, drummer Greg Anton, bassist Damian Erskine and Hammond player Melvin Seals, will play Americana and jams at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, at the Applegate Lodge, 15100 Highway 238, Applegate. Joining them will be Duke Davis and Mikey Stevens. Bohemian Soul, featuring Pevar and vocalist Inger Jorgensen, will open the show. Cover is $15. Call 541-761-9394 for information.

COUNTRY DANCE: Pat Summers and the Rogue Valley Playboys will play "Auld Lang Syne" at the stroke of midnight on Friday, Dec. 31, at the Rogue River Community Center annex, 136 Broadway St., Rogue River.
