The Ashland Gallery Association organizes art walks the First Friday of every month in downtown Ashland, the Railroad District and surrounding areas.
On Friday, Feb. 2, participating galleries and studios will be open until 8 p.m. to unveil new exhibits and host artists' receptions. Most artists will be on hand to discuss their work and techniques. Some galleries host live music and art demonstrations during the event. Art walk maps are available at any of the venues.
This month's highlights include "In Love with Oregon," a collection of watercolor paintings by Betty Barss, to be displayed at Art & Soul Gallery. Barss' favorite landscapes exist on the coast and in southern and eastern regions of the state.
"East Meets East: Part II" at Gallerie Karon will transport visitors to countries in East Asia. Look for exotic jewelry, kimonos, Buddha and Quan Yin statues and masks. Professional Middle Eastern dancer Zahara will perform from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
A retrospective exhibit of fine art photography by Pat Moore will be showcased through March at Shepherd's Dream, at its new location at 42 E. Main St. Acoustic guitarist Coyote will perform at the First Friday reception.
"Diversity," original painted panels and giclee prints by Betty LaDuke will be presented at Hanson Howard Gallery. LaDuke traveled the globe for 50 years, drawing inspiration from examples of human survival for her work. Her abstracts speak to the trials humans face while they celebrate the spirit of life.
