Marching Band Competition: The 25th Annual Pride of the Northwest marching band competition will start at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Mel Ingram Field at Grants Pass High School, 830 N.E. Ninth St. A dozen high-school bands from South and North Medford, Crater, Phoenix, Roseburg, Del Norte, Hillsboro, St. Helens, McMinnville, Silverton, Sprague and Liberty will compete. Preliminary competitions begin at noon. The 230-member GPHS band will perform, but not compete. The event is a fundraiser to benefit the band’s trip to New York City to perform in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
