The Second City: The Chicago-based improvisational troupe — acclaimed for such luminaries as John and Jim Belushi, Tina Fey, Julie Louis-Dreyfus, Bill Murray and Gilda Radner — brings a quick-witted cast to present its take on our nation’s peculiarities and foibles at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon: YSSO, conducted by Cynthia Hutton, kicks off its 2018-2019 concert season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Craterian Theater, 23 S. The Youth Symphony will perform the overture to Gioachino Rossini’s “The Thieving Magpie” and Carl Maria von Weber’s Bassoon Concerto in F major. The featured soloist is Caleb Hutchings, winner of YSSO’s 2018 Concerto Competition. Youth Symphony brass will play a fanfare arranged by Mark Eliot Jacobs, and the YSSO clarinets will play Mikhail Glinka’s “Valse-Fantasie.” The Youth Orchestra will play selections by Edvard Grieg, Johannes Brahms and Bedrich Smetana.
