The English Beat: Founded in 1978 in Birmingham, England, The English Beat released three studio albums in the early ‘80s. Rogue Valley Symphony: The symphony returns to its holiday tradition of Candlelight Concerts. Conducted by Martin Majkut, the shows feature Baroque music with a sprinkling of Romantic and modern music. Look for Tomaso Aldinoni’s Oboe Concerto No. 2 in D minor with oboist Kristin Kessler, Francesco Manfredini’s “Christmas Symphony” and Johann Christoph Pez’s Concerto Pastorale, along with Michael Praetorius’ “In dulci jubilo,” George Gershwin’s “Lullaby,” Antonin Dvorak’s “Nocturne,” and carols for a sing-along. The Hamazons: Warrior Princesses of Improv Cil Stengel, Eve Smyth and Kyndra Laughery will present “A Completely Improvised Holiday Classic (That Has Yet to Be Told)” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14-15, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Bellview Grange, 1050 Tolman Creek Road, Ashland. Southern Oregon Repertory Singers: The 60-voice ensemble, directed by Paul French, will present “Welcome Yule!” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, in the Music Recital Hall, 450 S. Mountain Ave., at Southern Oregon University in Ashland. Look for motets by composers Morten Lauridsen and Ivo Antognini; “And Lo the Angel of the Lord” by James MacMillan, “Hodie Christu Natus Est” by Heinrich Schutz; and an arrangement of Norwegian folksongs by Ørjan Matre. Also look for new work by SORS composer Jodi French, a variety of carols and an appearance by the North Medford High School Chamber Choir.
