If you got the blues and wanna share them, come out to Ashland Blues Society's jam session, now happening at Roscoe's BBQ in Phoenix.
Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 4, the monthly jam will be at 6:30 p.m. the first Tuesday of every month at Roscoe's BBQ, 117 S. Main St., Phoenix. The jam formerly was held at the Ashland Community Center.
"Moving the blues jam to Roscoe's not only gives blues fans a chance to have a place where they can sit, eat and have a drink and relax, but it also helps us showcase some of the local bands that will host it," says David Pinsky, president of ABS.
Each month, a different host band will open the jam with a 45-minute set before inviting other blues musicians to join it, says Pinsky.
January's host band is Broadway Phil and the Shouters, featuring vocalist and harmonica player Phil Newton, bassist Gary Davis, drummer Dave Mathieu and guitarists Jake Thompson and Dave Day. The group has three albums to its credit: "Shout Back" (released in 2008), "Rhythm & Dues" (2002) and "Rock Bottom" (1996).
Upcoming host bands are as follows:
- Tuesday, Feb. 1 — Blues Society, including Pinsky on guitar and vocals, Mark Howard on harmonica, Terry Erdmann on bass and Michael Ruiz on drums
- Tuesday, March 1 — The Rogue Suspects
- Tuesday, April 5 — Pinsky and his Rhythm Kings
- Tuesday, May 3 — Main Street Blues Band
