Art Along the Rogue Street Painting Festival

The annual street painting and music festival will feature chalk art by nearly 40 regional artists and students, a doggy art walk and live music by eight bands. This year’s theme is “Movie Posters,” and this year’s featured artist, Jay Schwartz, a street painter from Santa Barbara, Calif., will create a 25-foot poster of the original “King Kong” film on Fifth Street. Other artists will recreate artwork from “War of the Worlds,” “Moulin Rouge,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Indiana Jones,” “Forrest Gump” and others movies.

It all takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5-6, along H Street in downtown Grants Pass. Admission is free. Call 541-450-6180 or see www.artalongtherogue.com.

Children and adults also can purchase small plots of pavement and some pastels to create their own street masterpieces. The live music schedule includes performances by Marke Kailana Nelson, the Rogue Valley Sauerkrauts, LEFT, the Cee Cee James Blues Band, Generation Jones, Eight Dollar Mountain, The Illies and LOVEBITE. At 11 a.m. Sunday, dogs, dressed in artistic costumes, will be paraded down H Street. Prizes will be awarded to the dog with the most creative costume.
