Rogues fall to Gold Sox on late HR


MARYSVILLE, Calif. — Nick Ultsch hit a two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally the Yuba Sutter Gold Sox to a 7-6 victory over the Medford Rogues Friday in Great West League baseball at the Colusa Casino Stadium.

The Rogues (2-2) erased a 5-4 deficit with two runs in the eighth inning on back-to-back home runs by Daniel Nist and Cole Elvis to open the frame.

Angel Mora ledoff the Gold Sox ninth with a single. After Medford reliever Liam Herlihy got Jacob Terao to pop up and struck out Tyler Stewart, Ultsch hit a 2-1 offering for his second home run of the season.

Nist has a big game for the Rogues with three hits, including a pair of home runs, two runs and two RBIs.

The teams will play the second of the three-game series at 7:05 p.m. today.
