The Medford Rogues tuned up for the Great West League playoffs with a 9-4 victory over the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox Friday at Harry & David Field.
Mitchell Neunborn hit two home runs and Blake Baumgartner added another for the Rogues on “Bark in the Park” night, when 590 dogs joined 1,142 fans in the stands.
Medford, playing its first game in five days because of cancellations due to poor air quality and opponents being unable to field full teams, improved its season record to 31-24.
The Rogues face the Gold Sox again at 6:35 tonight for a “Christmas at Harry & David Field” promotion, then begin a best-of-three GWL playoff series against the Lincoln Potters at 6:35 p.m. Sunday at Harry & David.
The winner of the series faces regular-season champion Chico for the league title.
Medford, making its third straight playoff appearance, is the defending champion.
Neunborn and Baumgartner each hit two-run home runs in the Rogues’ five-run seventh inning on Friday.
Riley Kasper opened the frame with a double and eventually scored on an error.
Walks to Tommy Ahlstrom and Josh McIntyre preceded the homers by Baumgartner and Neunborn, respectively.
Neunborn also had a solo shot in the second. He has nine homers on the season.
Kasper, McIntyre, Neunborn and Sam Olsson each had two of the Rogues’ 11 hits.
Medford used six pitchers, with Kolby Button starting and allowing one hit over three shutout innings.
Chandler Giles pitched two perfect innings to gain his first win.
