Tygerson sparks Grizzlies in win

ASHLAND — Garrett Tygerson turned in an impressive early-season performance for the Ashland Grizzlies in a nonconference baseball game against South Medford Friday.

Tygerson had a perfect day at the plate and pitched three innings of relief as the Grizzlies defeated South Medford 11-1 in six innings at North Mountain Park.

Tygerson went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and scored two runs to spark the Grizzly attack. The senior delivered a two-run single in the first inning and hit a solo home run in the fifth.

Ashland starting pitcher Charlie Sebrell blanked the Panthers with a three-inning hitless outing, striking out two and walking two.

Two of South Medford's three errors led to four unearned runs by the Grizzlies (2-0).

The Panthers (0-1) scored their only run in the fifth inning on a single by Bret Reordan and Jordan Lundgren's RBI double.

NORTH MEDFORD 12-10, MARSHFIELD 0-0 — Mark Cokenour and Hayden Wolfe both pitched gems in a nonconference doubleheader to keep North Medford (4-0) undefeated at North Medford High.

Cokenour pitched a one-hitter in the opener and Wolfe followed by yielding just three hits in four innings of work. Both games lasted five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Matt Maurer had a two-run double during the Black Tornado's eight-run second inning.

In Game 2, Bradshaw and Cody James hit back-to-back triples in the third inning. James went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.

PHOENIX SPLITS — At Yreka, Calif., Jordan Decker had six straight strikeouts to close out Game 2 for Phoenix in a 12-1, five-inning victory over Las Plumas in the Gold Nugget Tournament.

Decker finished with eight strikeouts, no walks and no earned runs in 65 pitches.

Shortstop Justin Bohn was 3-for-4 with two runs, two stolen bases and three RBIs, while Kasy Locken was 3-for-3 with two runs, two stolen bases and two RBIs. Kyle Treadway also had two hits for Phoenix (2-1).

John Florey had two hits and drove in Phoenix's lone run in a 12-1, five-inning loss to Central Valley to open the tournament.

ASHLAND SWEEPS — At Yreka, Calif., Bella Pribyl had a combined 19 strikeouts between two games to lead the Grizzlies in the Yreka Open Tournament.

Sophomore Rose Marston went 1-for-3 with three RBIs to edge Etna 3-1 in Game 1.

Senior Amanda Good went 3-for-4 with a single, double and a home run for Ashland (2-1) in a 5-2 win over Del Norte.

PHOENIX 19-12, BROOKINGS-HARBOR 1-3 — At Brookings, Phoenix swept Brookings-Harbor behind 22 combined hits in two games.

The Pirates scored 16 runs in the first two innings of Game 1. Tessa Lockett pitched a complete game and a hit a two-run single as part of a nine-run first.

Danielle Smith added a three-run double. The Pirates had seven hits and three doubles in that innings.

Chandler Tally was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Courtney Scoggins was 2-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBIs and Danielle Smith was 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

In Game 2, Carlee Storey was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and three stolen bases, while Smith was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Freshman Bailey Hernandez was 2-for-2 with one RBI. Phoenix scored six runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by Storey's three-run double.
