St. Mary's head girls soccer coach Dave Potter was just as impressed with the effort that Cascade Christian gave as he was with his Crusaders' response during St. Mary's 2-0 victory at U.S. Cellular Community Park on Tuesday.
After a scoreless first half, Anna Thorndike scored on an assist from Emma Anderson in the 50th minute. Amber Moore netted a goal five minutes later for the undefeated Crusaders in the District 4 match.
"Both offensively and defensively, they made us work very hard," Potter said of Cascade Christian. "They came out and played some serious soccer and we had to respond to that."
On Thorndike's goal, Anderson played a ball up from the backline, which Thorndike let bounce in front of her while being defended tightly. She scored from about 16 yards out with only the goalkeeper to beat after creating the chance with Anderson's assistance.
Moore's goal came off of a direct kick by Thorndike, who drove in a bending ball that Moore capitalized on with a head flick from about 14 yards away for St. Mary's (12-0-1, 7-0 Dist. 4).
Goalkeeper Viv Juncal, who has recorded six individual shutouts and shared two others, earned the win between the pipes against Cascade Christian (5-6-1, 3-3 Dist. 4).
GLIDE 6, ILLINOIS VALLEY 0 — At Cave Junction, Glide (9-3, 4-2 Dist. 4) raced out to a 4-0 halftime lead en route to the league win over Illinois Valley (2-9, 0-7 Dist. 4).

The Knights' other scores were by Kylie McElheran, who rocketed a 25-yard free kick into the net, Autumn Diaz and Venessa D'Arpino.
For North Valley (5-7, 3-6 Sky), the defensive line of Kacey Werner, Rochelle Banta and Baylee Duncan was stout.
