KLAMATH FALLS — St. Mary’s continued its dominant play and ran away with the championship of the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A Special District 4 girls golf tournament at the Running Y Ranch Resort Tuesday.
A day after shooting the team’s lowest score, 318, the Crusaders finished off the two-day event with a 324 to win the title by 172 strokes over Cascade Christian (814). Those two and third-place Phoenix (824) qualified for the state tournament Monday and Tuesday at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks.
St. Mary’s is the two-time defending champion.
A lightning storm caused about an hour delay in the afternoon, but it didn’t stop the Crusaders.
St. Mary’s freshman Baylee Hammericksen captured the individual title, firing a 73 for a two-day, even-par 144. Teammates Kaylee Wu was second with a 78 and 151 and Kamryn Ford, the 2016 state champion, was third with a 75 for a 153.
Phoenix’s Maricela Alvarado-Powers claimed fourth overall with a 183 total. Rogue River’s Sophia Woodall fashioned an 88 on Day 2 to secure a state berth as the district’s fifth-place finisher.
Kimi Brown paced Cascade Christian with a total of 198, two shots ahead of teammate Tess Homeier.

5A DISTRICT 2: At Creswell, Eagle Point’s Jacob Hamilton led all local scorers by tying for 18th place with rounds of 83 and 91 for a 174 total in the two-day district tournament at Emerald Valley Golf Club.
Ben Evans finished 10 shots behind Hamilton to help the Eagles finish eighth in the team standings.
The top five teams and top 10 individuals advance to next week’s state tournament.
Kadyn Kimbrough finished with a 186 total to finish tied for 33rd overall in leading Ashland, while Chase Sonnen led Crater with a 203 to pace the Comets.

CLASS 3A/2A/1A DISTRICT 4: At McKenzie Bridge, St. Mary’s and Rogue River each qualified for the state tournament by placing second and third, respectively, behind Bandon at Tokatee Golf Club.
Bandon won with a score of 624, St. Mary’s shot 737 and Rogue River 759. The top three earned berths to state Monday and Tuesday at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks.
Scotty Kennon of Bandon was medalist, shooting a 3-under 69 for a 141 total. St. Mary’s Bryce Stiemert was third with a 164, and teammate Max Lewis fourth at 166.
Rogue River was led by John Gordon’s 177.
Cascade Christian’s Ian McCauley didn’t advance to state, but he supplied a highlight with a hole-in-one on the 148-yard fourth hole. The senior used an 8-iron for his first ace.
Stiemert and Lewis made the all-district first team. Gordon made the second team.

CLASS 4A/3A2A/1A DISTRICT 3: The St. Mary’s doubles team of Corin Elmore and Bob Gu qualified for the state tournament late Monday by advancing to the semifinals, but they forfeited their berth because neither will be available for next week’s tournament.
The tandem did not play in the semifinals Tuesday at Fichtner-Mainwaring Park.
The Crusaders’ team of Milan Bobek and Blake Gillispie won the consolation bracket with a 6-2, 6-3 win over a team from Klamath Union.
