St. Mary’s girls clinch undefeated district run

No. 1 singles player Finley Cox led a sweep for the St. Mary’s girls tennis team in singles play, defeating Claire Wood 6-0, 6-1, as the Crusaders wrapped up a perfect Class 4A-3A-2A-1A District 3 campaign with a 7-1 win over Hidden Valley at Fichtner-Mainwaring Park Friday.

Cox, a freshman, finished the regular season undefeated in league play and will likely be seeded first at the district tournament, to be held Thursday and Friday at the same site.

The Crusaders went 7-0 in district play this season.

MAZAMA 3, PHOENIX 2: Phoenix No. 1 singles player Bella Hoye beat Paula Ferguson, 6-2, 6-1, but Mazama won two of three doubles matches to take the dual, played Thursday.
