Short-handed Comets fare well at EP Invite

EAGLE POINT — With their top-seeded swingers missing in action for Friday's Eagle Point Invitational golf tournament, the Crater boys and girls teams fared well in the tune-up and fundraiser at Eagle Point Golf Course.

Without projected No. 1 golfer Kara Vezzani, the lady Comets were able to beat out Ashland in the two-team nonconference dual with Mackenzie Guthrie's 118 leading the way at the par-72 course. Crater edged the Grizzlies, 524-562.

The Crater boys were short last season's state qualifier in junior Dennis Acevedo. As a result, the Comets placed third in the four team event with Dakota Valentino and Jon Williams each carding 94s. The Comets totaled 385.

Thurston won the event with a score of 332 and runner up Del Norte was helped by medalist James Morrow's 7-over 79.

For the girls, Ashland's Willie Michiels was a medalist with a 111 and Lisa Drake went for a 123 as Eagle Point's solo representative.
