Roseburg swept South Medford in three games in Southern Oregon Hybrid volleyball Tuesday, but the Panthers did not fall easily.
South Medford either had a lead or was tied in all three games, but the visiting Indians prevailed, 25-19, 26-24, 25-20.
"Tonight we turned the corner, even though we lost," said South Medford coach Sarah Costa. "Our girls really worked hard. We played together and showed trust."
Outside hitter Miranda Marincus paced the Panthers with nine kills, and Sam Martin, a senior rightside, added eight.
"We really had strong play from Sam Martin," said Costa. "She played smart and without fear."
Sam Owirka contributed 23 digs and six kills for South (2-3, 2-2 SOH), and libero Emily Cutting showed good hustle and communicated well.
EAGLE POINT 3, GRANTS PASS 1 — At Grants Pass, Eagle Point got 14 kills each from Whitney Barber and Christine McCready in the 25-15, 19-25, 25-19, 25-23 nonconference win.
McCready added 38 digs, while Lesley Nielson had 35 for the Eagles (6-2). Carolina Regalado totaled 31 assists, and Amanda Kady notched eight blocks.
ASHLAND 3, HENLEY 1 — At Ashland, Ashland triumphed in the nonconference match, 25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 25-19.
The Grizzlies (2-2) got 15 kills from Piper Cantrell and 14 from Shelby Minor. Cantrell also had 21 digs, one block and three aces, while Joy Harpham contributed six kills and four digs and setter Cassie Hall 38 assists.
HIDDEN VALLEY 3, SOUTH UMPQUA 0 — At Hidden Valley had 25 service aces in the 25-15, 25-11, 25-18 nonconference win.
For the Mustangs (4-1), Bailey Bars and Elizabeth Venzon had 11 kills each, and Elly Lengwin notched 23 assists.
CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, CHILOQUIN 0 — At Chiloquin, frontline players Meghan Higday and Elise Gardner paced Cascade Christian to a 25-13, 25-21, 25-10 nonconference victory.
Higday, a senior middle, registered 13 kills and three blocks, while Gardner added nine kills from her outside hitter position.
Challenger setter Haley Casebier provided 25 assists.
In the first game, Rachel Baska's 11 straight service points erased an early deficit and gave Cascade (4-1) a 17-7 lead.
LAKEVIEW 3, ILLINOIS VALLEY 1 — At Lakeview, Lakeview rallied with three straight wins after dropping the opener to take the Southern Cascade Hybrid match, 19-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-23.
Senior Thea Barker of Illinois Valley (1-2) was 19 of 22 serving with two aces. Fellow senior Meghan Householder was 15-for-15, while sophomore Keyanna Augustadt was 10 of 11.
Cougar setter Abby Miller also had a big night.
BUTTE FALLS 3, PROSPECT 0 — At Prospect, Butte Falls handed its rival its first loss, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20, in MVL play.
Mariah Moore led with 16 kills, and a couple long service runs by the Loggers (7-3, 4-1 MVL) kept Prospect at bay. Kaylee Dearmore served 10 straight points in the first game, and Allie Givens had seven in a row, with two aces, in Game 3. Tamika Funk notched seven kills and served five straight in the second game.
For Prospect (5-1, 3-1 MVL), Taylor Bernhardt had 16 kills, with 7 of 7 serving, and Heather Lass amassed seven kills, 15 assists and was 9-for-9 serving.
- ST. MARY'S 3, LOST RIVER 0 — St. Mary's swept the nonconference home match, 25-21, 25-22, 25-14.
- BONANZA 3, ROGUE RIVER 0 — At Bonanza, Rogue River dropped the nonconference road match, 25-15, 25-15, 25-17.
