Roseburg bests North Medford in SWC showdown

No. 2 Roseburg used five pins, a technical fall and a major decision to scuttle No. 5 North Medford 57-12 in a Southwest Conference dual Wednesday at North Medford High School.

Fresh off a one-point loss to No. 1 Newberg in the final of the Oregon Classic, Roseburg won five of the first six matches to take control of the high-profile Class 6A matchup, including Carson Dunn’s 50-second pin of North Medford’s Sam Miller in the 106-pound bout.

Enrique Jaime gave North its first victory of the day at 126 pounds when he pinned Kahleb Diaz in 5:24.

The Black Tornado also got wins by Cole Zoller at 145 pounds and Julian Stone at 220.

Zoller pulled out a 7-2 decision over Tristin David, while Stone beat Hunter Blix in another decision, 8-2.

THURSTON 39, CRATER 30: At Springfield, No. 5 Thurston picked up pins in two of the last three matches to clinch a banner victory over No. 4 Crater in a Midwestern League dual between Class 5A powerhouses at Thurston High School.

The teams were tied at 27-all heading into the 195-pound match, and Thurston’s Avery Jaramillo pinned Joseph Jordahl to give the Colts the lead for good. In the 220-pound bout moments later, Thurston’s Colten Hallett pinned Aric Adams in 3 minutes, 1 second to clinch the team victory.

The Comets had three technical falls on the day by Angel Diaz (126 pounds), Nathan Santoni (160) and Tony Flores (182).
