Pribyl propels Ashland to Yreka tournament title

YREKA, Calif. — Bella Pribyl was efficient and overpowering in leading Ashland to the championship in the eight-team Yreka Open softball tournament on Saturday.

Pribyl posted 20 strikeouts and only three walks in 11 innings to help the Grizzlies top Mount Shasta, 8-1 in six innings, and Del Norte, 6-1.

The senior, who was named MVP of the tournament, struck out 11 with two walks against Mount Shasta, and had nine strikeouts in five innings before giving way to Hayley Ross in the championship game against Del Norte.

Ashland (4-1) pounded out 27 hits overall Saturday, with Sarah Silbowitz going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and Carley Santee 2-for-3 with one RBI against Mount Shasta.

Nicole Lehman had two hits in each game, driving in a pair of runs against Mount Shasta, and Amanda Good had two RBIs against Del Norte.

EAGLE POINT 17-1, SOUTH UMPQUA 4-0 — At Myrtle Creek, Eagle Point belted out 18 hits in the five-inning opener and took advantage of South Umpqua miscues to win the rain-shortened, five-inning nightcap.

Karlie Stephens struck out 10 and allowed only one hit in Game 2 for the Eagles (2-1), who scored in the second inning thanks to two walks and a South Umpqua error. Stephens also had two hits, one run and two RBIs in Game 1.

In the opener, Cheree Dale and Jamie Paxton each had three hits, with Dale posting three runs and three RBIs and Paxton adding two runs and one RBI.

The Eagles also got strong outings from Sam DeVaughn (two hits, three runs and three RBIs), Jennie Fernandes (two doubles, two runs and one RBI), Chloe Hanson (two hits and two runs), McKensie Re (two hits, three runs and one RBI) and Christine McCready (two hits, one run and one RBI).
