Prep Soccer: Pirates keep rolling

TALENT — Phoenix senior Bryson Flenner and freshman Victor Martinez knocked in two goals apiece while the defense posted its fifth Skyline Conference shutout with a 5-0 victory over Klamath Union on Monday at Hagler-James Park.

The first strike from the Pirates (8-0-1, 5-0-1 Skyline) came off the foot of Flenner from 40 yards out on a pass from Ty Clayton in the 25th minute. Five minutes later, Martinez put the Pirates up 2-0 with a score on an assist from Gustavo Pinon.

Flenner provided his second goal for the Pirates in the 55th minute on a set-up from Randy Rodriguez, and two minutes later, Flenner assisted on Martinez’s second tally of the contest.

The defense, led by Joe Navas, Cornelio Carrera-Flores and Johnny Esquivel, limited the Pelicans (0-9, 0-6) to just three shots in the contest, none of which posed a real threat.

The Pirates’ Elijah Leonis also scored in the 65th minute on a breakaway on a Cain Vargas assist.

ST. MARY’S 9, ROGUE VALLEY ADVENTIST 0: Andrew Rietmann recorded a hat trick for St. Mary’s en route to a District 5 win over Rogue Valley Adventist at U.S. Cellular Community Park.

Luka Cvijanovic added a pair of goals and an assist for the Crusaders (9-0-1, 9-0 Dist. 5), who received four assists from Will Kranenburg.

The loss dropped the Red Tail Hawks to an 0-7-1 record overall and in league play.
