CENTRAL POINT — Makiah Palmer scored four goals and had two assists as Crater defeated Eagle Point 8-0 in nonleague girls soccer Saturday.
Crater (3-0-1) led 7-0 at halftime.
Allison Waters had two goals, including a header off a corner kick by McKenna Gugliotta. Gugliotta also scored on a direct free kick, and Kayleigh Gugliotta on a penalty kick.
Nichole Bodfield notched two assists.
BEND 3, SOUTH MEDFORD 2: At Bend, South Medford senior Ula Chamberlin scored with three minutes remaining but the Panthers couldn’t come up with an equalizer after that in dropping the nonleague match.
Chamberlin scored off a free kick by Madelyn Pineda for the Panthers (1-3), who saw Mikayla Titus score with two minutes remaining in the first half to tie Bend 1-1 heading into intermission.
SUMMIT 2, NORTH MEDFORD 0: At Bend, Summit scored twice in the first half, in the 21st and 32nd minutes, and kept North Medford at bay for the nonleague shutout.
Senior goalkeeper Brinley O’Neill made 10 saves, including two breakaways, to give the Black Tornado (0-1-2) a boost.
GRANTS PASS 2, ASHLAND 0: At Grants Pass, Ashland senior Lily Annen worked to create a number of scoring chances but was unable to convert as the Grizzlies came up short in nonleague action.
Ashland (1-2) had seven shots — six on frame — but couldn’t get one in against Grants Pass (2-0-1), which scored in the 16th and 18th minutes to take control despite a solid outing by goalkeeper Nina Munson.
SUMMIT 3, NORTH MEDFORD 1: North Medford paid a price for a sluggish start as Summit scored all three of its goals in the opening 25 minutes to earn the nonleague win at Hoffbuhr Field.
Caleb Forte scored North Medford’s lone goal in the 35th minute on a fine individual 18-yard effort from the left side of the box.
Robert Valencia had a prime scoring chance go wide after taking a through ball in the second half for North (0-2), while goalkeeper Junior Garcia came up with a number of saves against the Storm (3-0).
SOUTH MEDFORD 1, BEND 1: South Medford’s Kam Calhoun scored in the 60th minute to forge the nonconference tie against visiting Bend.
Gus Lara, up from the junior varsity, assisted on the score.
Backup goalie Jesus Villa of the Panthers (1-0-1) filled in well for starter Jude Pannell, who is out with a concussion.
EAGLE POINT 12, CRATER 1: At Central Point, Martin Hernandez scored five goals as Eagle Point (3-1) rolled in the nonconference match.
Jaydyn Budrow had two scores for the Eagles, and Julian Herazo notched his first goal of the year. Other scores for EP, which led 6-0 at halftime, were by Cody Silani, Martin Munoz, Elvis Cisneros and Matthew Angel.
Jeremiah Berry scored in the 52nd minute for Crater (0-3).
PHOENIX 5, MOLALLA 1: At Myrtle Creek, Bryson Flenner scored a pair of goals to help Phoenix build a 5-0 lead by the 55th minute in the nonleague match played at South Umpqua High.
Flenner scored in the 18th and 55th minutes for the Pirates (2-0), who also got goals from Logan Jenkins (39th minute), Ty Clayton (47th) and Cain Vargas (51st). Miguel Conchas added two assists while Victor Martinez and Randy Rodriguez each had one assist.
ST. MARY’S 9, PAISLEY 1: At Paisley, St. Mary’s had little trouble in opening District 5 play with a runaway road victory.
The Crusaders improved to 1-0-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the win over Paisley.
CASCADE CHRISTIAN 2, LAKEVIEW 2: Cascade Christian got off to a strong start in its season-opening District 5 match at U.S. Cellular Community Park.
Cody Havniear scored first for the Challengers (0-1, 0-1 Dist. 5) off a set piece in the 17th minute, and Jonathan McCoy tallied on a breakaway in the 24th for a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Lakeview (1-1, 1-0) evened the score with breakaway goals by Esteban Orozco and Axel Hernandez in the 52nd and 65th minutes, respectively.
ROGUE RIVER 3, ILLINOIS VALLEY 2: At Cave Junction, Rogue River junior Garren Decker scored his third goal with three minutes to play to lift the Chieftains to the District 5 triumph.
Illinois Valley scored twice in the first half before Decker knocked in a penalty kick in the 34th minute. Decker then scored second-half goals for Rogue River (2-0, 1-0 Dist. 5) off assists by Pumin Piras and Simeon Poston to thwart the Cougars (0-1, 0-1).
