PREP ROUNDUP: North wrestlers swamp rival South

North Medford used four pins and five forfeits to record a 67-12 Southwest Conference dual wrestling victory over visiting South Medford Thursday.

Black Tornado coach Phillip Lopez cited strong performances by Cole Zoller and Enrique Jaime, each of whom earned major decisions over tough opponents they’d previously had close battles with.

Jaime bested Isaac Rubus at 126 pounds, 13-5, and Zoller topped Andrew Hall at 145, 19-6.

“Everyone who won was looking for bonus points,” said Lopez. “They were getting major techs before getting their pins. They’re working hard to improve for later in the year. They want to make a good run at state, and you’ve got to be able to put up points, which is not easy against high-level people.”

North Medford got pins from the coach’s daughter, Kyleigh Lopez, at 120 pounds, Benjamin Zeigler at 138, Ethan Miller at 160 and Noah Forester at 170.

Two of South Medford’s victories were by fall. They were recorded by Brayden Ostvik at 113 and Killian Cosgrove at 132.
