PREP ROUNDUP: Morris, Hokanson win slaloms

MT. ASHLAND — Nolan Morris of North Medford and Gracen Hokanson of Crater won their respective boys and girls slalom races Saturday in the first weekend of high school competition in two years at Mt. Ashland Ski Area.

The Adroit Construction Races attracted schools from throughout the Rogue Valley.

Morris won with a combined time of 1:22.3 for his two runs on the challenging course. He went 41.11 and 41.19 on his turns. St. Mary’s Lucas Hill was second in 1:25.1, and Ashland’s Oliver Dorrell was third in 1:26.4.

In the girls meet, Crater’s Gracen Hokanson triumphed. She had runs of 45.43 and 45.07 for a total time of 1:30.5. Ashland’s Kiara Hills was second in 1:34.5, and Cascade Christian’s Haylee DeBoer was third in 1:35.3.

Swimming

ASHLAND SWEEPS: Ashland’s boys and girls teams swept dual matches against South Medford, Cascade Christian and St. Mary’s at the Medford YMCA.

The Grizzly boys beat South Medford 82-48, St. Mary’s 78-34 and Cascade Christian 80-35.

The Ashland girls won 85-71 over South Medford, 97-44 over St. Mary’s and 113-9 over Cascade Christian.

Wrestling

SUTHERLIN CLASSIC: At Sutherlin, Phoenix’s Emma Truex won the girls 125- to 128-pound division, and teammate Bella Lucia earned third place.

In the boys meet, the Pirates’ top placers were Joey Wilson in fourth at 160 and Salvador Castanon in sixth at 285.

In her three matches, Truex registered two pins and a technical fall. In her third and final match, the reigning state champion pinned Douglas’ Elexis Walker in 25 seconds.
