PREP BASKETBALL: Lands leads Prospect

PROSPECT — Leeanna Lands connected for the game-winning basket with seven seconds remaining as the Prospect girls defeated Milo Academy 31-30 in nonleague basketball Monday.

Lands, a sophomore guard, hit a 15-foot, floating jumper in the lane to pull out the victory.

Freshman post Tianna McGonagle paced Prospect with 11 points and Lands added eight.

Prospect (3-3) held a 19-9 halftime advantage.

The Cougars held Milo’s leading scorer, Brynna Scarbrough, scoreless over the final four minutes. Scarbrough, a senior post, led all players with 15 points.

Prospect hosts Gilchrist to open Mountain Valley League play on Wednesday.


MILO ACADEMY 61, PROSPECT 46: At Prospect, senior guard Jordan Royce went for a season-high 28 points for Prospect, but cold shooting and turnovers in the first half proved costly in the nonconference loss.

Royce made three 3-pointers and was 5 of 7 from the line.

The Cougars (1-5) trailed 34-16 at halftime then made a run to cut Milo’s lead to 10 points early in the fourth quarter.

Freshman post Logan Gordon led Prospect on the boards.
