Phoenix routs Central to salvage split of twin bill

INDEPENDENCE — Phoenix turned up its offense in the second game — it scored nine runs in the fourth inning — and dispatched Central, 18-2, in five innings to salvage a nonconference baseball doubleheader split Thursday.

The Pirates (4-4) managed only two hits in losing the opener, 5-1.

In Game 2, Phoenix's Justin Bohn had one hit but reached base in four of five plate appearances, scored three runs and stole two bases. His hit was a two-run double in the fourth. Bohn also was the winning pitcher, going four innings, allowing five hits, striking out four and walking three.

Kyle Treadway was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, Kameron Kauffman was 2-for-2 with two runs and Chris Kammel was 2-for-4 with two runs. Kyle Henrickson hit a two-run double in the second.

In the opener, Bohn and Kammel had Phoenix's only hits off Michael Hamilton, who also slugged a three-run home run.

HIDDEN VALLEY 19-13, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3-1 — At Murphy, Dylan Armanino and Nick Bellenbaum combined to drive in nine runs in the opener to set the tone for Hidden Valley in the nonconference games.

Armanino had a three-run homer and two-run single.

In Game 2, Ryan Hayden was 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs for the Mustangs, and pitcher Mike Suthann pitched a five-hitter and struck out seven.

The Panthers (3-3) left eight on base in the first four innings and had 10 batters strike out in the game.

Brandon Dollarhide was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for South Medford while Isaac Rolie hit a solo home run in the fifth. Bo Walker was also 2-for-4.

EAGLE POINT 4-6, DOUGLAS 1-8 — At Eagle Point, Brian Smith was productive in Eagle Point's split.

In the opener, the senior left-hander pitched one shutout inning for his first save and delivered an RBI single. In Game 2, Smith tossed 41/3 innings in the starter's role, allowing one unearned run, surrendering two hits and striking out four. He added two hits and scored once.

Eagle Point's Tyson Brownlee went 2-for-2 in the opener, including an RBI squeeze bunt that plated the winning run in the fourth.

The Eagles (1-3) squandered a 5-1 lead in the second game when Douglas rallied for seven runs in the sixth. EP's Brandon Hauser had two hits and two RBIs and Derek Tuttle two hits.

EAGLE POINT 18, HIDDEN VALLEY 5 — At Murphy, Jamie Paxton went 3-for-4 to spark Eagle Point's 11-hit attack.

Paxton picked up the win as the Eagles' starting pitcher and scored two runs.

Karlie Stephens added two hits and three RBIs for the Eagles (4-4), and Cheree Dale drove in three runs.

For Hidden Valley, Chauncie Porter and Jessica Gerlani had two hits each.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN SPLITS — At Sisters, Cascade Christian completed the Sisters tournament with a 2-2 record, beating LaSalle, 11-2, and losing to Cascade, 19-2.

In the first game, the Challengers' Leah Weakley and Jazmin Gomez combined on a one-hitter. Ronnie Martinez and Nikki Jones each had three hits, with Martinez driving in three runs.

In the second game, Amanda Kinney hit a solo home run for Cascade Christian (3-3).
