Perry's personal best leads Panthers

GRANTS PASS — The South Medford boys and girls won the New Hope Christian Invitational.

South Medford's Ryan Perry set a personal best with a time of 16:26 to claim the boys 5,000-meter race. Teammates Travis Jantzer (17:12.59) and Nick Shanklin (17:16.8) were second and third.

South Medford's Carmen Mejia placed second in the girls race in 20:47.7.

ASHLAND BOYS WIN — At Mount Shasta City, Calif., the Ashland boys were first and the girls second in a 20-school meet at Shastice Park.

Sam Jackson led the Grizzly boys with a sixth-place finish, clocking 12:41 over the 2.2-mile course. He was followed by teammates Ben Jackson (ninth, 12:59), Isaac Schaaf (10th, 12:59), Colin Haug (17th, 13:12) and Nick Bowland (19th, 13:13).

For the Ashland girls, Dana Greenblatt was seventh in 15:44. Teammates behind her were Kelly Odion (eighth, 15:45), Marshall Miller (10th, 15:55), Alex Kiesling (11th, 15:59), Andrea Scherrer (15th, 16:25).

Water Polo

ASHLAND SWEEPS — At Cottage Grove, Adam Good and Forrest Kollar combined for nine goals to lead the Ashland High boys water polo team to a 15-6 opening win over Cottage Grove.

The Ashland girls won 12-6.

For the boys, Good had five goals and Kollar four. Protecting the net was sophomore Miles Furuichi, who came up with 17 saves.

In girls, freshman Sadie Kasiah scored five goals and junior Sarah Kasiah four. Ashland also got solid defense from Molly Cochrane (two steals).

Volleyball

BUTTE FALLS 3, GILCHRIST 1 — At Butte Falls, middle blocker Bessie Taylor had nine kills, 12 digs and two blocks to power Butte Falls to a 25-15, 25-6, 16-25, 25-19 Mountain Valley League win.

The Loggers (2-2 overall and league) also got a big lift from Beth Sutfin, who had eight kills, and setter Mariah Moore, who added 15 assists and seven aces.

HOSANNA CHRISTIAN 3, PROSPECT 0 — At Prospect, Hosanna Christian won the Mountain Valley League match, 26-24, 25-12, 25-18.

For Prospect (4-4, 1-3 MVL), Heather Lass had five kills and seven blocks and was 8-for-8 serving. Kristalyn Mahoney added four kills and 10 digs, Caree Mickelsen had four blocks and was 10-for-10 serving and Taylor Bernhardt tallied four kills and eight blocks.
