North completes sweep of Sheldon

EUGENE — North Medford senior pitcher Rylan Austin scattered six hits with four strikeouts to shut down Sheldon’s offense and the Black Tornado provided plenty of offensive support in the early going en route to a 10-1 triumph in Southwest Conference softball Tuesday.

The victory allowed North Medford (14-3, 9-1 SWC) to sweep the season series with Sheldon (15-4, 7-4) and remain a half-game behind Grants Pass in the league standings.

The Black Tornado scored seven of its runs over the second and third innings, highlighted by a two-run single from Ella Ivens in the third inning as she finished 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs.

Lauren Barry was 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI for North, with Chelby Smalley, Grace Johnson, Kylie Baker and Kyleigh Lopez each driving in a run.

GRANTS PASS 7, ROSEBURG 5, 8 inn.: At Roseburg, Grants Pass rallied from a 5-1 deficit to tie the SWC contest in the seventh inning and win in the eighth behind RBIs by Halleigh Noga and Grace Gaither.

Gaither and Noga each finished 2-for-5 for the Cavers (15-2, 10-1 SWC), while Devin Ireland was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI and Jordan Kuykendall added two RBIs.

Erica Allen went 4-for-4 to pace Roseburg (11-7, 8-4).

EAGLE POINT 12, NORTH EUGENE 2, 5 inn.: At Eagle Point, Eagle Point made quick work of North Eugene, scoring 11 first-inning runs in the Midwestern League contest.

Gillian Willis and Ashley Oppelt were each 2-for-2 with two RBIs — both hit two-run singles in the first — for the Eagles (12-5, 8-3 MWL).

Drew Guillory added a triple for Eagle Point.

BONANZA 9, CASCADE CHRISTIAN 5: At Bonanza, four Cascade Christian errors in the seventh inning proved to be the team’s undoing as Bonanza rallied to win on a walk-off grand slam by Abby Orella in nonleague action.

The Challengers (10-7) committed six errors that led to eight unearned runs for pitcher Katelyn Willard, who struck out 12 and limited Bonanza (9-8) to six hits.

Mallory Meilicke had two hits, one run and four RBIs for Cascade Christian, with Ali Modrell and Willard each adding two hits and one run scored.

DAYS CREEK 15, BUTTE FALLS 5, 5 inn.: At Butte Falls, Angel Johnston smacked a two-run single to highlight a four-run outburst in the second inning of the 2A/1A District 4 loss for Butte Falls.

Jocelyn Olsen added a double for the Loggers (5-7, 2-4 Dist. 4).

Days Creek improved to 3-3 in league and 5-7 overall.
