No. 2 North Eugene fends off Crater

EUGENE — Crater lost its kill leader early and dropped a Midwest League volleyball match to unbeaten North Eugene, 25-23, 25-16, 30-28, Friday.

The Highlanders (15-0, 8-0 MWL) are second in the OSAA 5A rankings. Crater fell to 6-4 and 5-3.

Eight points into the first set, the Comets’ Maya Van Hook, a junior middle, landed on the foot of a North Eugene player — who had come under the net — and sprained her ankle.

Crater still gave a game effort and was on the cusp of taking the third set before the Highlanders rallied from a 24-19 deficit.

The Comets’ Nehkyah Ellis had 10 kills and three aces, Rane Jensen produced 19 digs, Heather Colmer had 14 digs and Haylee Hoffman added 12 digs.

CHILOQUIN 3, BUTTE FALLS 1: At Chiloquin, Butte Falls got a couple strong service runs by Lucia Damiana in a first-set victory before Chiloquin came back in the nonleague match.

Chiloquin (2-6) won 20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-10.

Butte Falls (3-9) got three aces from Damiana in the first set. T’Neal Myers had eight kills with a 33-percent kill ratio. Ellie Columbus and Taylor Crowe each had a block.

PAISLEY 3, PROSPECT 0: At Paisley, Paisley rolled to the Mountain Valley League win, 25-22, 25-16, 25-14.

Prospect dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in league.
