Myers tosses 6 TD passes as Butte Falls rolls

BUTTE FALLS — Fourth-ranked Butte Falls changed its offensive personality against Powers Friday, but the high-scoring Loggers didn't miss a beat.

Senior quarterback Codey Myers connected for six touchdown passes as Butte Falls rolled to a 60-6 District 2 football triumph at Logger Field.

The victory was the 23rd straight in league for the Loggers.

In its previous three victories, undefeated Butte Falls (4-0, 3-0 Dist. 2) was successful with an explosive rushing attack. But veteran coach Randy Stephenson decided to test the arm of Myers.

"We haven't passed much this year because we've been so far ahead," said Stephenson. "We wanted to open it up a bit. We have to get Codey ready if we need to pass in the playoffs."

Myers responded with an 11-for-14 passing performance for 170 yards.

"Myers can throw the ball really, really well," said Stephenson. "And he was hitting the open guy today."

Moe Gower was the major beneficiary. The junior end had six catches for 101 yards, with four receptions going for touchdowns.

Harley Casillas hauled in the other two touchdown passes and had one TD on the ground.

The Loggers rushed for 284 yards. Chase Ellis had 138 yards on six carries, while Casillas added 109 on 10 rushes.

"What was really impressive was our defense," said Stephenson. "Teams can't run against us. We've got good line play, and our inside linebackers Harley (Casillas) and Josh (McGonagle) pursue real well."

Powers had just 15 yards passing and 128 on the ground — 67 coming on a Justin Flatt TD run on the game's final play.
