Morgan, Comets top Eagles in SSC opener

CENTRAL POINT — Justen Morgan pitched five innings of shutout ball and the Crater offense did the rest in a 10-0 Southern Sky Conference-opening win over Eagle Point Monday at Anhorn Field.

Morgan allowed just four singles in the five-inning contest, striking out five and walking two.

During a 3-for-4 effort for the Comets (5-1, 1-0 SSC), Bryce Crawford had a two-run single and a triple. Christian Massey and Bruce Sanford each went 2-for-3. Massey added an RBI triple and Sanford a run-scoring double.

ROSEBURG 9, THURSTON 2 — At Thurston, Roseburg's Matt Thomson went the distance, allowing two unearned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts in the nonconference win.

Vince Ampi added a two-run double in the sixth for the Indians (4-1), and John Farrington had three RBIs. Each went 2-for-4.


NORTH VALLEY 13, ROGUE RIVER 3 — At Merlin, North Valley rolled up seven runs in the third in the nonconference contest.

Rachel Conard drove in three runs and had a two-run double in the third. She was one of five Knights (2-7) to collect two hits. Cynthia Chase, Kendra Peckham, Chelsea Million and Alex Farmer were the others.

In four innings, Knights pitcher Jasmine Aaron tossed shutout ball, giving up two hits and fanning three for her second victory.
