McCoy, Preszler lead Challengers past IV

CAVE JUNCTION — Jonathan McCoy scored six goals, Sam Preszler had two goals and two assists and the Cascade Christian boys soccer team shook off an early strike by Illinois Valley to secure its fourth win in a row, 9-2, in District 5 action Wednesday.

Illinois Valley stunned Cascade Christian only two minutes into the game when Jaden Vanhorne scored from 30 yards out to give the home team a quick 1-0 lead. The Challengers (8-1-1, 8-1-1 Dist. 5) responded swiftly, however, as McCoy scored two goals over the next three minutes, with Preszler and Ryan Crowl assisting.

Vanhorne scored again in the 10th minute to tie the game, and again Cascade Christian responded, as Preszler and McCoy connected on assists Brandon Parker and Preszler.

The Challengers blew the game open in the second half, with McCoy netting three goals and Jorge Gutierrez and Preszler also scoring.

All but one of Cascade Christian’s goals were assisted.

Illinois Valley (3-6-1, 3-6-1) is now 0-2 against the Challengers this season.

ROGUE RIVER 2, CANYONVILLE ACADEMY 0: At Rogue River, Garren Decker scored on a free kick in the 51st minute and Sebastian Poston added an insurance goal in the 67th as the Chieftains won the District 5 clash at Beck Field.

The win improved Rogue River, which has won five of its last six games, to 8-3, 7-3 in Dist. 5. Canyonville Academy fell to 2-7-2 and 2-6-2.

Girls Soccer

ROGUE RIVER 8, EAGLE POINT 1: At Rogue River, Makayla Drake notched her second straight five-goal game as the Chieftains pulled away in a game they led only 1-0 at halftime.

Also for Rogue River, Alyssa Sizemore scored a hat trick.
