Locals land on all-state squads

North Medford's Garrett Byrd, Ashland's Nick Chouard and Sadie Bailey and North Valley's Venessa D'Arpino all earned spots on first-team all-state teams, which were recently announced.

Senior striker Byrd, the Southern Oregon Hybrid player of the year, made the Class 6A list after scoring 17 goals to go with 13 assists for the Black Tornado, which finished 12-2-2.

Senior midfielder Chouard, the 5A SOH player of the year, turned in nine goals and eight assists for the Grizzlies (8-6-1).

Bailey, a versatile senior striker, led Ashland (9-4-2) in assists and was second in goals.

Senior striker Venessa D'Arpino, who was the Skyline Conference player of the year, recorded 21 goals and six assists while wearing a cast for a broken hand most of the season for the Knights (10-5-1).

Those who made second-team lists were North Medford senior Amanda Hisey and South Medford junior Brittany Jensen (6A), Phoenix seniors Alex Vela and Eli Espana (4A) and Hidden Valley senior Kaelyn Trader and North Valley senior Kerissa D'Arpino (who had 10 goals and 11 assists).
