Grants Pass grapplers take down Eagle Point

EAGLE POINT — Eagle Point’s 145-pounder Kobe Cunningham and 152-pounder Kara Davis muscled their way to back-to-back first-round pins, but it was Grants Pass that earned the team victory, 63-18, in a nonleague wrestling dual Wednesday at Eagle Point High School.

Cunningham pinned Grants Pass’ Chance Maude in 1 minute, 1 second to give the Eagles their second of three victories on the day. Soon thereafter Davis made it two in a row for Eagle Point when he pinned Owen Townes in 1:42.

Shayla McNulty picked up the Eagles’ first win of the day in the 126-pound match, pinning Mason Fischer in 5:54.

Ten of Grants Pass’ 11 wins came by fall or forfeit. The lone exception came at 170 pounds, where Grants Pass’ John Rosa pulled out a 9-3 decision over Juan Ruiz II.

PAISLEY 52, ROGUE VALLEY ADVENTIST 45: At Paisley, the Red Tail Hawks suffered their first loss of the season after four consecutive wins in the Mountain Valley League opener for both teams.

Rogue Valley Adventist continues its MVL season today at Trinity Lutheran.

Paisley improved to 2-3.

Girls Basketball

BUTTE FALLS/CRATER LAKE 50, REEDSPORT 42: At Butte Falls, the Loggers remained undefeated after picking up their sixth straight win to start the season in the nonleague clash.

Reedsport fell to 3-4.

PAISLEY 31, ROGUE VALLEY ADVENTIST 26: At Paisley, Rogue Valley Adventist suffered its first loss of the season in the Mountain Valley League opener.

The Red Tail Hawks fell to 4-1, while Paisley earned its fourth win in a row to improve to 5-1.

Prep Swimming

ROSEBURG SWEEPS: At Roseburg, South Medford’s Maryn Ringger and Karissa Cooper both won an event for the Panthers but Roseburg swept the Southwest Conference dual, winning 104-63 in girls and 145-26 in boys.

Ringger won the 100-yard freestyle in 59.95 seconds, easily outpacing Roseburg’s runner-up, Ali Paschall (1:09.09).

Cooper won the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.40.

Ringger and Cooper also swam legs for South Medford’s two victorious relay teams, the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay.
