Glendale no-hits Loggers in 2A/1A playoffs

GLENDALE — Through six innings of work in Friday's Class 2A/1A state softball quarterfinal, Butte Falls ace Mariah Moore was unhittable.

Unfortunately for the Loggers, Moore's counterpart, Elizabeth McGuire, had her no-hitter go the distance for Glendale.

Moore lost her no-hit bid in the seventh inning, paving the way for Glendale to generate the game-winning run as the Pirates eliminated the Loggers with a 1-0 victory at Glendale High School.

Moore lost her no-hitter after Glendale's Hope Williams led off the frame with a bloop single over the third baseman's head. After consecutive groundouts, Bridget Mozingo finished the game with an RBI base-knock to right-center field.

The Loggers (19-3), champions of District 4, had a chance to take the lead with two outs in the top of the inning with runners on the corners. As Jessica Driskell tried to steal second base, Moore tried to swipe home from third base, but was thrown out at the plate.

Moore walked just one batter and hit another to go with six strikeouts. She finished the season with 16 wins and three losses.

McGuire walked two and fanned four.
