Fireworks abound as EP falls to Churchill

EAGLE POINT -- Churchill and Eagle Point produced more fireworks in the first quarter than many games have in their entirety, as both combined for 56 points in the first 12 minutes of a high-powered Midwestern League game eventually won by visiting Churchill, 61-40.

The game featured two teams ranked in the top 10 in the state. Churchill (5-1, 3-0 MWL) is No. 3 in the coaches’ poll, and Eagle Point (4-2, 1-2) is tied for 10th.

Churchill quarterback Demontre Thomas scored four first-quarter touchdowns on runs of 7, 5, 1 and 3 yards. The Lancers added a Thomas pass in the period.

Eagle Point got two 1-yard TD plunges from Devin Bradd and a Noah Page scoring reception of 37 yards for the 35-21 quarter score. Conversely, neither team scored in the second before the Lancers pulled away after halftime.

Bradd carried 35 times for 228 yards. He added a third 1-yard score in the fourth.

The Eagles’ Cameron Morgan threw for 209 yards on 10 of 18 passing. He also had a 66-yard scoring strike to Eric Parliament and a 50-yard TD to Page.

Page had seven catches for 122 yards.
