Crusaders down Chiloquin in SCL opener

While some of the St. Mary's volleyball players struggled to settle into their new roles, Chiloquin saw an opportunity to hang with last season's Southern Cascade League runner-up.

But that window slammed shut after the Crusaders dominated Game 2 and earned an SCL-opening win, 25-20, 25-5, 25-12, at St. Mary's High Thursday.

The Crusaders (8-2, 1-0 SCL) committed six hitting errors and missed five serves — which they were able to overcome — in Game 1.

The rest of the way, St. Mary's made just four hitting errors and missed only two serves.

Danielle Shubat was a big reason for the recovery.

Shubat was one of the players changing positions because of illnesses to a few players but made the adjustment of moving from outside hitter to libero with no problem. The senior converted on all 14 of her serve-receives and added eight digs.

Junior setter Jordan Jackson had 21 assists and five aces for the Crusaders.

Sophomore middle hitter Alexi Provost-Sheen was strong at the net with six blocks and four kills, as was junior middle Kylie Adderson with eight kills and four blocks.

Right-side hitter Domonique Valdez had seven digs, was almost perfect on serve receive and did not commit an error.

Sunset League

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, GLIDE 0 — At Glide, Cascade Christian showed what it could do with a healthy lineup in a 25-12, 25-9, 25-12 win.

It was the first time this season the Challengers (4-0, 4-0 Sunset) had their entire team together and healthy. They had been missing several players due to injury or illness.

Becca Sellers racked up 15 kills and finished off the Wildcats by serving the final eight points in Game 3 for the Challengers.

Setter Breanna Holtz had 22 assists and outside hitter Amanda Kinney led the Challengers with nine digs.

BANDON 3, ROGUE RIVER 1 — At Bandon, Rogue River couldn't keep its Game 1 rhythm, and Bandon came back to post a 23-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-18 victory.

Chieftains junior outside hitter Jesse Sondag had 13 kills and two blocks, but Rogue River (2-4, 1-3 Sunset) had trouble with Bandon at the net and fell behind early in the second and third games.

Makaela Stalker added four kills and a pair of blocks for the Chieftains.

Skyline Conference

HENLEY 3, ILLINOIS VALLEY 0 — At Cave Junction, Henley ran its Skyline winning streak to 43 straight with a 25-8 25-12, 25-11 victory.

EAGLE POINT 3, PHOENIX 2 — At Phoenix, senior outside Kristin Wyatt sparked Eagle Point to a 25-23, 13-25, 26-24, 20-25, 15-11 victory.

Regalado, a sophomore setter, finished with six aces and 27 assists.

Wyatt pounded 20 kills and came up with 17 digs, while senior middle Hannah Mason added nine kills and four blocks. Christine McCready provided four kills and five blocks for the Eagles (2-4).

HIDDEN VALLEY 3, YREKA, CALIF. 1 — At Murphy, No. 4 Hidden Valley (15-0) recovered from a slow start to post a 17-25, 25-13, 25-10, 25-22 victory.

Mustangs junior outside hitter Lacy Wood amassed 11 aces and had 10 kills with right-side hitter Bailey Bars reaching 10 kills as well.
